I seriously wanted it, even though I’m pretty sure that I already have read everything in it at some time or another. But the subject matter is near and dear to my heart, even though that is an almost unforgivable pun. Even though I am rapidly becoming fat allover, my belly fat is what I would like to see melt away first.

So, has anyone read it? I flipped through and it seemed like the idea was to plan portion control and food choices to a healthy 1600 calories a day, divided into 4 equal parts, one of which was the “snack pack”. There was an emphasis on including good fats in each of the four parts, and I recognize that theory from what I’ve read about insulin resistance, which is what creates your belly fat in the first place. (Disclosure: I am not a doctor or a nutrition professional. I am just a middle aged woman with a waist measurement that predicts my certain untimely death of heart disease or diabetes.)

When I started writing this post, I was thinking about a rant against diet books that just recycle and regurgitate the same old information over and over again, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder if it might be a case of “When the student is ready, the teacher will come”. I know whenever I start over and succeed for a year or so, it’s because of some book that made mucho sense to me when I read it. There’s usually a heavy dose of inspiration to save your own life included. Maybe I’ll hit the buy button at Amazon today or maybe I won’t even wait 3 days – I’ll walk up to the bookstore this afternoon. I can burn the first 400 calories for an extra snack pack tomorrow before I even get home.

And when I realized that, my feelings were very senior citizenly. Now it’s not like the older three just suddenly jumped into the 35-65 demographic. It’s that I stopped to figure out how old they were and mid-forties and was the answer. Oh, my!

Not sure what I’m going to do when I realize that the younger three (my offspring) are all mid-thirty. I’ll probably need to find out what they mean when they say “nerve pills”.
